Schools, Universities, Youth Clubs, Young People’s Organisations
We welcome primary and first schools, middle and high schools, universities and colleges, youth clubs, special schools and boarding schools, academies, faith schools and free schools, private and public schools a like. Most of “our” education groups are from Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, County Durham, Cumbria and the Borders, but we do have some who travel from much further afield. We are also proud to be major provider of Prince’s trust and National Service Citizenship (NCS) activity residentials.

What all these education groups love about Deneholme is

  • the beautiful homely building that you have all to yourself during your stay (no other groups on site)
  • the professional yet relaxed and friendly approach by all Deneholme and activity staff
  • the delicious home cooked food and real outdoor adventure – on and off site
  • the wonderful surroundings of the woodland gardens, fells and moorland and the quaint village of Allendale

  • Duration
Your residential can be for one night only, two, three or four nights and can take place at any time of the week. We can also run non-residential day events either at Deneholme, Sweethope or indeed at a venue of your choice.
  • Activities
We specialise in two areas: traditional, real adventurous outdoor activities, such as canoeing, ghyll scrambling, rock climbing, abseiling, weaseling, mining, kayaking, mountain biking, archery, bush craft, high ropes and much more on the one hand and leadership team building challenges such as “Contract Raft”, “Operation Nimrod”, “Activity Murder Mystery”, the “Jigsaw Challenge”, “Search and Rescue Scenarios” and Problem Solving Tasks on the other.

  • Catering
The catering for Deneholme guests is all done in house by our very own chef. We can accommodate special dietary needs, offer a selection of vegetarian options and will always to our utmost to cater to your every need. Typically there will be a continental breakfast buffet followed by a full English to give you a good start for the day.
Our evening meals are two course, home cooked hearty meals, such as a chicken roast dinner followed by apple crumble and custard or homemade pizza & chips, lasagna & garlic bread or any dish that you would like us to prepare. In the summer BBQ’s are very popular – outside on our decks in the evening sun!.

Lunch is a choice of two home made soups, sandwiches, quiches or sausage rolls and a choice of fruit, but if you are out for the day, a typical packed lunch consists of a hearty sandwich, cereal bar, an item of fruit, a drink, a bag of crisps and chocolate bar to keep you going.

  • Health & Safety

Deneholme and BECKs Training have all the relevant risk assessments, insurance and checks in place to facilitate residentials and activities to young people from the age of 8 upwards. This is manifested in our AALS/AALA license and Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge – but you are more than welcome to request copies of all the documentation, risk assessments, operational procedures, incl. child protection and safe recruitment, ratios, equal opportunities and emergencies

  • Transport
You have three options with regards to transport:

    1. The most popular way is for a group to provide transport to and from Deneholme with us providing activity transport throughout your stay – for those activities that take place off site.
    2. Alternatively you can provide your own activity transport – for example if you are planning to use mini-busses and we give you a discount on the cost of your stay.
    3. Finally, we can do all the transportation for you: picking your group up from a central location, i.e. a school, and providing all activity transport with us dropping you off at the end of the residential.
