THE Allen Valleys are in line for a £1.8m programme of investment which will attract extra tourists into the area.
The North Pennines AONB Partnership this week announced plans for the project which will enhance heritage sites and the local landscape as visitor attractions.
The first round of cash from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has already been released to allow plans for the four-year programme to be drawn up.
Among the proposals are the creation of a mobile observatory and planetarium. In addition, a community orchard and hay meadow will be created, and the Edwardian pleasure gardens at Deneholme, in Allendale, will be restored.
